School gives thumbs down to gay couple

In Oklahoma, two female high school students have a fight on their hands. When their school found out about they were a couple, it decided to refuse to let them graduate.

Melissa McKenzie, 18, claims she was kicked out of school when her head teacher at Del City High School found out she was living with her girlfriend instead of her family.

Kelsey Hicks, her girlfriend, dropped out of school but wanted to return to complete her education so that she could become a firefighter. She claims the school encouraged her to drop out:

‘The principal will say 'Well, you're gay. You're not going to do anything with your life. You might as well just drop out now,'’ she said. ‘It's stuff to put you down that makes you want to drop out.’

The school defended its stance, saying neither of the former students filed complaints, though Hicks claimed she contacted members of the school board about the problem.
