Panic in US porn industry after actor tests positive for HIV

The US porn industry is in crisis as one of its star performers tested positive for HIV.

The Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM), a clinic located in the San Fernando valley in southern California that carries out mandatory testing for porn actors, has refused to reveal the gender of the actor or for which studio he or she works.

Two major studios have temporarily suspended filming while the clinic tracks down others known to have been exposed, quarantining them until they too can be tested.

Major panic last gripped the valley in 2004 when a male star, Darren James, was found to have contracted the virus. He in turn infected three actresses leading to more than 30 studios shutting down temporarily.

This new positive test result has thrown up the long-debated issue about condoms in the porn industry, which studios argue drive down sales.

James recently told the Los Angeles Times that he was disappointed by the lack of progress on the issue since his ordeal. 'I knew it was going to happen. And how many years has it been? Again. They went right back to the same habits. Good grief, it's like my deal, all over again. I hate that.'
