Britney’s new confessional shocker

Artwork for Britney Spears’ new album, Blackout, features snaps of the scantily-clad singer sitting on the lap of a supposed priest in a confessional box.

Of course the news guys have managed to find a Catholic or two to express the appropriate outrage. But really: is that it? Didn’t Madonna go much further years ago by, like, calling herself Madonna then releasing Like a Virgin, Like a Prayer and all the rest?

One Catholic spokesperson made just this point, calling the artwork a "bottom of the barrel" stunt. After a nod to her parenting problems, Bill Donohue, president of the New York-based Catholic League, concludes: "Now we see she can't even entertain."

Ouch. That’s really gotta hurt Brit. Especially when it comes from someone as accomplished as Bill, eh?
