Down with miniskirts!

It’s a country whose playboy Prime Minister cavorts with call girls and belly dancers. But in one Italian town these trifling matters of ‘social decency’ are taken a whole lot more seriously.

The mayor of the seaside town of Castellammare di Stabia in southern Italy has pushed through a ban on ‘very skimpy clothing’ reports the ANSA news agency.

The town’s Conservative mayor, Luigi Bobbio, said that provocative outfits including miniskirts can still be worn, but must not be too revealing. He said: ‘It’s a matter of common sense, of common decency.’

Just how mini a miniskirt can must now be a burning question for women and men in the Italian town.

Local female politicans turned out for the vote with placards reading ’stop femininicide’ but to no avail. None of them it appears were wearing miniskirts.

Other measures passed include a ban on playing football in public spaces as well as bans on blasphemy and swearing. To even it out between the sexes, men can no longer go around bare-chested.

Now I know where I won’t be going for my summer hols next year.
