Barbican film festival brings sex back to the big screen
Since 1912 the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has been depriving us of the steamiest bits of cinema, but no more! Starting this Thursday, the film folks at the Barbican, kind souls, are bringing us Seduced – Sex and Censorship in the Cinema. Lucky Londoners will get a full week of uncensored versions of some of the most scandalous films of the past century.
It’s hard to imagine what the BBFC of the 1920s, which cut scenes of “lecherous old men” or “unrestrained embraces”, would have done with a film like John Cameron Mitchell’s latest opus Shortbus, with its non-stop depictions of… well, perhaps you’d better go see it for yourself.
