Researching roman romps

We're always impressed when actors and actresses go to town when researching roles or getting into character for films or television shows. Christian Bale shed a man-sized amount of weight to get into (bad) shape for his role in the film 'The Machinist'. Dustin Hoffman spent time in a mental asylum to help form his interpretation of the role of rain man in the film of the same name. Now it seems that John Hannah has to resort to internet porn in his attempts to keep his on-screen interpretations of roman orgies accurate and interesting, Orange online informs us.

The tv serial 'Spartacus' depicts the sexual, incestuous and sensual times of Ancient Rome, with its glistening gladiators, manipulative matriarchs and easy-living emperors. And as we all know, not from our school history books, it was a golden era of sex romps, dalliances with slaves which Hannah is trying to keep spicy by investigating new sexual positions to (ahem) try out:

'Hannah explains, "There is one scene where we have an orgy. It's shown as a kind of cool, drug-induced montage, so we needed lots of different sexual positions. You can show people having sex, but it's not that easy to find that many different ways.

'There are the two obvious ones - then you sort of run out of ideas. We got on the internet and had a look at some stuff for inspiration. 'But some of those positions hurt! It can be hard to get into some of them. It was kind of interesting.'

There we were thinking that Ancient Rome was one big toga party, not so dissimilar to frat-house parties on the other side of the pond!
